“Barcelona are” - Transfer expert provides update on Joao Pedro amid interest from La Liga winners

Joao Pedro could be the subject of offers from Barcelona this summer, but a deal may prove too expensive for the Spanish champions according to reports.

Chelsea signed Pedro from Brighton last summer in a deal worth up to £60m, and he’s had a successful first season at Stamford Bridge.

Pedro has scored 20 goals in all competitions, with 15 of those coming in the Premier League, none of which were penalties.

Joao Pedro could be too expensive for Barcelona

His goal scoring exploits weren’t enough to make the World Cup, as former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti decided to overlook Pedro for Brazil’s final squad.

However, his form hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Pedro is believed to have attracted interest from Spanish champions Barcelona.

Barcelona are looking for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, and it’s been reported Pedro will tell Xabi Alonso he wants to leave this summer.

Given the lack of Champions League football and uncertainly around the club, Transfer Correspondent Pete O’Rourke feels the Catalans could make a move.

“I’m not convinced that [being left out of the Brazil squad] will have a major impact on his future,” he told Football Insider.

“Obviously it was a big surprise that he didn’t make the Brazil squad, because he’s had a great campaign for Chelsea and been named as their player of the season.

“He’s got 20 goals and nine assists in all competitions since his arrival from Brighton and he’s been one of Chelsea’s shining lights in what has been a pretty poor season.

“Barcelona are looking at him as they are looking for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski and they could look to take advantage on the situation.

“But I think he’d probably be a bit too expensive.”
