UAE Cricketer Asif Khan Banned for Doping Violation

Pakistan-born UAE batter Asif Khan has been handed a 15-month ban. He failed a dope test, with his sample testing positive for a prohibited steroid.

A metabolite of mesterolone was found in Asif's sample. Mesterolone is a prohibited anabolic steroid used to increase testosterone levels. This test was conducted on September 8, 2025.

Asif admitted to the rule violation

The 36-year-old cricketer was found guilty of violating Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code. In its statement, the ICC said that Asif has admitted to the rule violation. He accepted the sanction through a case resolution agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the ICC.

The ICC stated that Asif has accepted the sanction.

The ban will end on December 7 this year

The ban imposed on Asif is considered effective from September 8, 2025. This ban will continue until December 7 of this year. The ICC said - Asif will be able to train with a team from October 8. He will also be able to use the facilities of any club or any member organization of the ICC. However, his return to competitive cricket will only be possible from December 8.

The provisional suspension on Asif began on December 29, 2025. His individual records or awards from September 8, 2025, until the start of the provisional suspension have been cancelled.

Made his debut for UAE in 2022

Since his debut in 2022, Asif has played 38 ODIs and 56 T20 Internationals for the UAE. He moved to the UAE in 2017. Prior to this, Asif had played 32 first-class matches in Pakistan's domestic cricket.
