Chelsea confirm deal for former Liverpool figure who will play key transfer role

Chelsea have just confirmed the news that leaked a couple of weeks ago – they have appointed Dave Fallows to the Sporting Leadership team, with his deal starting today.

The former Liverpool director was an important figure working alongside the likes of Michael Edwards as the Reds were resurrected from their dark days, and will hope to have a similar impact at Stamford Bridge.

“In his new role, Dave will lead areas of football development, focusing on scouting and data, loans and player pathways, and overall football staff development and evolution,” a statement on the club website said.

If you’re confused about where he fits in alongside other figures in the sporting structure like Laurence Stewart, Paul Winstanley, Sam Jewell and Joe Shields… well, join the club. Stewart and Winstanley are quoted as saying that they are “delighted to welcome Dave to Chelsea.

“His arrival strengthens an already talented group as we continue to build for long-term success on the pitch.”

Fallows is apparently going to “work closely” with all of the above figures in his new role. We’re always keen to get talented people in, but you have to balance that with a fear of “too many cooks.” We saw what happened when Christopher Vivell was hired and then left just a couple of years ago – let’s hope we won’t get a repeat of that.
