Former player Ravi Shastri said that adding Jasprit Bumrah to the Playing XI without taking a bigger picture into consideration could result in career suicide for the speedster. Bumrah was injured during the fifth and final Test against Australia and didn’t bowl in the second innings. Although he was added to ODI squad for the three-match ODI series against England, he hasn’t joined the team in Nagpur. Bumrah is also a part of the unit for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.Shastri wants the selectors and the team management to avoid using the pacer if he is not fit as it could cause problems like 2022. Bumrah was rushed back to play T20I series against Australia and it worsened his condition, sidelining the right-arm seamer for 10 months.“Don’t take risk as India will play a lot of cricket in the near future. Don’t repeat the mistake of 2022. Bumrah can’t be forced to bowl at this stage of his career. The expectations will always be there but he can’t perform from the first game after an injury,” Shastri said on the ICC Review Show.Shastri mentioned that if Jasprit Bumrah is ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, it will impact Team India’s chances.“Bumrah not playing in the ICC Champions Trophy will reduce India’s chances by 30-35 percent. Bumrah gives you a luxury of keeping things tight in the death overs as well,” he added.Bumrah took 32 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and he was named the Player of the Series.
