Gary Lineker picks Benjamin Sesko in Man Utd trio for 'first time' claim, Micah Richards says he's 'nailed it'

Gary Lineker sparked a powerful reaction from Micah Richards after his eye-opening point about Benjamin Sesko and two other Manchester United players this season.

Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards linked up with Gary Lineker and Premier League legend Alan Shearer for the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast.

The aforementioned trio discussed the different Premier League fixtures from the weekend, including Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.

Ruben Amorim was unable to make it four consecutive wins in the Premier League during United’s visit to City Ground to face Sean Dyche’s men on Saturday.

United led Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the first half through a Casemiro opener before Sean Dyche’s side hit back in the early stages of the second half on the weekend.

Forest went 2-1 up thanks to Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona before Amad Diallo later found the crucial equaliser that United needed in the Premier League tie.

Micah Richards reacts to Gary Lineker’s claim about Benjamin Sesko and two other Man Utd stars

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was riding a wave of momentum after the Red Devils’ Premier League wins against Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton.

However, the Red Devils were complacent against out-of-form Nottingham Forest and United were punished in the space of two minutes by blowing their 1-0 lead.

Amorim refused to change his front three of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha during the match, despite their respective lack of impact in the tie.

Gary Lineker singled out Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha for the quality of signings that United are now bringing in under the Ineos regime.

“Cunha is a really good player and Mbeumo is a really good player,” he said.

“Sesko, I think, might show something as well. I think he’s promising.

“So, I think it’s been better recruitment, but time will tell on that as well.”

Reacting to Lineker’s assessment of United’s recruitment, Micah Richards said: “I agree with everything that you think.

“I think you nailed it, actually. But yeah, time will tell.”

What else did Gary Lineker say about Man Utd’s recruitment after the Nottingham Forest match?

Ineos backed Amorim in a major summer spending spree at Old Trafford, with Diego Leon and Senne Lammens also part of the five signings who arrived at the club.

Diego Leon, Senne Lammens, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have provided Amorim with further squad depth for the United first team that he inherited.

Speaking on United’s form and recruitment, Lineker said: “So, I think that while they’ve had a little bit of a good run and a revival, it’s hard to envisage that they’ll sustain it for a long period, but you know, you’ve got to remember, what, were they like that 16th in the league last season?

“So, you’re not going to suddenly jump up into the top. But the one thing I would say for them is their recruitment, I think, for the first time in quite some time, looks like it’s been pretty good.”

United are currently eighth in the Premier League table after snatching a point at City Ground and the Red Devils will now face Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.
