What Man Utd's 100,000-seater 'New Trafford' stadium could look like as latest plans emerge

Manchester United have unveiled their vision for the new 100,000-seater that the club's top brass have designs on building.

United have made no secret of their desire to build a new state-of-the-art stadium on adjacent land to Old Trafford ever since Sir Jim Ratcliffe bought into his boyhood club.

The Ineos chief has since created The Old Trafford Task Force - consisting of the likes of Lord Seb Coe and Gary Neville - and while the club have refused to rule out renovating their current home, it's believed their preferred option would be to build a new £2billion super stadium.

For the first time since the idea was floated earlier this year, Manchester United have now released a number of images of what their potential new stadium could look like if they press ahead with their plans on their official website.

According to global advisory firm Oxford Economics, United's plans to regenerate Trafford Park could boost the economy by more than £7bn.

The club's proposed new stadium would be the centrepiece of the project. Computer generated issues of 'New Trafford' show a spherical design decked out in red complete with a grand roof.

The images, which also show how the surrounding areas could be regenerated, have been drawn up by Foster + Partners, the same architects who designed the new Wembley stadium. The plans have already garnered plenty of interest and comments from fans online since being made public at the start of the week.

While a new 100,000-seater stadium could become the 'Wembley of the North' as previously outlined by Ratcliffe, it remains to be seen what will become of United's current home if they do decide to press ahead with their plans.

It had previously been outlined that Old Trafford would be kept intact, albeit with a smaller capacity, in order to host matches for the club's women and academy teams in the future to preserve the iconic venue.

However, it emerged last week in The Mail that plans have changed and it now remains to be seen whether or not Old Trafford will be kept amid concerns that such an outcome is unrealistic due to the complex nature of the plans.

The club will, however, endeavour to set up a heritage focus group to ensure that the historical elements of Old Trafford are preserved if the stadium is bulldozed as part of the new revised plans.
