Aurora Gaming PH stuns home bet to rule M7 World Championship in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Aurora Gaming PH shocked home team Alter Ego in the grand finals of the M7 World Championship at the Tennis Indoor Stadium Senayan here.

Having dispatched Philippine champions Team Liquid and Malaysia champions Selangor Red Giants, Alter Ego — the last hope of the host country — had momentum in its side, with many saying that the current game's meta was all in favor of the Indonesian side.

But the Northern Lights maximized the information they have been given as they kept watch on their opponents, having booked their grand finals slot via the upper bracket. They countered Alter Ego's aggression with early game objective focus to take the opener in just a little over 15 minutes.

The tone was then set for the grand finals as Aurora Gaming PH continued its momentum, taking Game 2 in roughly the same way, while Game 3 just saw pure domination on the part of the Northern Lights. The team thus propelled itself to match point in less than 11 minutes.

By Game 4, Alter Ego's earlier meta plays and early aggression was the squad’s own downfall as Aurora Gaming PH showed no signs of slowing down, getting a wipeout as it broke open the Indonesian base and continued to shatter the crystal and win its first ever MLBB trophy.

"Malaking tulong yung nangyari sa amin nung Season 16. Yung pahinga namin sa Upper Bracket ngayon sinigurado namin na hindi kami kakalma, hindi kami magrerelax. We were able to predict what [Alter Ego] was going to do because of what we saw from their matches in the lower bracket especially in draft and their execution,” said Aurora Gaming PH head coach Aniel "Master the Basics" Jiandani.

The win sees Edward "Edward" Dapadap as the fourth player to have two M-series wins under his name, while Jonard "Demonkite" Caranto and Dylan "Light" Catipon complete their trophy case, having previously won the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) Philippines and MSC 2022 with their team that time, RSG Philippines.

The is the sixth consecutive time that the M-series winner has come from MPL Philippines.

Proudly conveyed by the local league's tagline, "Pinas Lang Malakas", Bren Esports started the winning trend after winning the M2 World Championship back in 2021.

M3 and M4 saw an all-Filipino grand finals in Singapore and Indonesia, respectively, with Blacklist International and Echo taking the trophy, and AP Bren breaking the host country curse when they won the world title in the Philippines during M5. Meanwhile, Fnatic ONIC Philippines capped off the 2024 season with a perfect run in last year's M6.
