Everton are set for a major windfall following the sale of former academy striker Nathan Broadhead. The 27-year-old has secured a move to Wrexham after the Championship club smashed their transfer record to lure him from Ipswich Town.

Broadhead is understood to have moved to the Welsh side in a deal worth an initial £7.5m. That figure could rise to £10m should Wrexham achieve promotion to the Premier League.

The transfer will provide a valuable boost to Everton, who inserted a sell-on clause into the deal that took him to Portman Road in January 2023.

The following season he scored 13 goals to help take the Tractor Boys into the top flight.

That package, signed off by former director of football Kevin Thelwell, was worth £1.5m to the Blues for a player who had joined the club’s academy at the age of 10 and made two senior appearances - his debut coming in the Europa League against Apollon Limassol.

He had enjoyed spells on loan at Burton Albion, Wigan Athletic and Sunderland and represented Wales’ youth setup before leaving on a permanent deal. Broadhead has since become a full Wales international.

That move included a sell-on clause for any profit Ipswich made on the move.

The ECHO understands the clause stood at 20%, meaning the club could be in line for as much as £1.2m depending on the make-up of the initial deal between Ipswich and Wrexham.

Broadhead joined Wrexham after they kicked off their return to the second tier with a stoppage time comeback defeat at Southampton.

Upon his arrival, he told club media: “It’s been a long time coming and I’m delighted to join the club. Belief is going to be the biggest thing for us this season. We want to get everyone from North Wales down to the STōK Cae Ras and to show that belief in us.”
