Sunderland want Barcelona midfielder as Hansi Flick’s decision pushes exit closer

Marc Casado's time at Barcelona appears to be moving towards its final chapter, with Sunderland now emerging as a serious contender for the midfielder's signature.

The 22-year-old has found himself on the outside of Hansi Flick's plans, and the signs around his future have become difficult to ignore.

As reported before, Casado has been training separately from the main group for weeks as Barcelona and his representatives look for a solution before the transfer window closes.

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Sunderland have joined the growing list of Premier League clubs monitoring the Barcelona academy graduate.

The English side is understood to be in discussions over a potential move, giving Casado a possible route to remain in European football.

With competition for places in Barcelona's midfield fierce, the Spaniard has been informed that regular opportunities will be difficult to come by under Flick.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, is therefore working on possible destinations. Casado has attracted offers from Saudi Arabia, but his preference is to stay in Europe and continue his career at a high level.

That decision has naturally opened the door to the Premier League.

On that note, Nottingham Forest had previously appeared to be among the strongest candidates for the Barcelona midfielder, while Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Brighton have also been linked with his situation.

As per the outlet, Sunderland are now negotiating Casado's arrival as they look to strengthen their midfield options.

The exact structure of a potential deal remains unclear, but Barcelona are believed to value the 22-year-old at between €30 million and €40 million.

From Barcelona's perspective, a successful sale would create room to continue shaping the squad.

Furthermore, the club could use the funds to pursue further signings and make final adjustments before the season develops further.
