Luis Diaz takes drastic action to make Barcelona pay if transfer problem reoccurs

Liverpool star Luis Diaz wants to place a clause in any contract with Barcelona that would come into play should the club fail to register him. The Catalan club remain interest in signing the Colombia international and are working with the player's agents, despite little interest from the Reds in a deal.

Diaz, 28, is under contract until 2027 at Anfield and has persistently been linked with Barcelona over the past 12 months. The attacker was a key player under Arne Slot last term but Barca sporting director Deco holds Diaz in high regard.

But any interest in a move would be tempered by concerns over Barcelona's financial situation. A year ago, Dani Olmo was unable to be registered at Camp Nou despite completing a transfer and could not play until 2025.

That has seen representatives look to protect their clients. Attempts to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao appeared to come to a standstill, before the winger signed a new contract at San Mames, because of late attempts from the players entourage to protect their client.

It is reported Williams wanted a release clause in place to accomodate for the possibility of not being registered. Diaz appears willing to stop short of that in his demands if a move is completed but does want compensating for 'sporting damage' per AS.

Liverpool are said to be determined not to sell Diaz this summer however, even with the club's significant spending. But Spanish outlet Cadena SER has previously suggested there is a gentleman's agreement between player and club that would allow the star to depart if an offer in excess of €80million (£69m) arrives.

Barcelona could yet face competition from Bayern Munich if Liverpool relent. Reports in Germany suggest the Bundesliga giant's sporting director Max Eberl had held talks over a move.

Ahead of his return for pre-season, Diaz has suggested there are negotiations over his future at Anfield taking place. The Premier League winner was asked by Colombian influencer La Liendra about his plans.

"We’re there, negotiating," Diaz said. "We’ll see what can be achieved, for us and for the club. We’ll try to do our best and make the best decision.

"We’re in the process of negotiations, talking with the club, with Liverpool, with everyone who’s approaching us. But I’m very calm where I am, you know, very happy. Trying to make the best decision, now."
