Electric €19m forward is Liverpool’s NEXT African star

Liverpool could snap up their next African star for €19m. One to watch for every Red.

Liverpool's peak under Jurgen Klopp was built on a staggering attack featuring two of the greatest African players of all time. Mo Salah and Sadio Mane were revelations for the Reds, developing rapidly to feature among the best in the world.

That did come with a problem, admittedly - Liverpool would lose their attack whenever AFCON happened. Still, no Red really cared about that, given the absolutely incredible quality that the pair brought with them.

Mane, of course, left Liverpool in 2022. Salah remains but will have just one year left on his contract after this season and it feels quite unlikely that he'll still be a Red beyond 2027.

The next generation must be found on the wings at Liverpool, particularly as they don't really have anyone to take over from Salah. But perhaps they've found someone special.

And he's African, too.

Liverpool like Anis Hadj Moussa

Africa Foot claims there's very real interest in Anis Hadj Moussa from Liverpool. The Feyenoord star is starting to look like a top talent and at just 23, could be ready to make the jump to an elite club.

Moussa joined Feyenoord in 2024 and bagged eight goals and three assists across his debut league campaign there. This season, however, he's well on course to beat those figures - he's already scored four times in the Eredivisie.

But it's Moussa's underlying stats that will raise eyebrows at Liverpool. He's someone who appears to be the right fit for what they're after.

The Reds, for instance, signed two very attacking, overlapping full-backs in the summer. They want wingers who are comfortable getting in the box - as shown by Salah boasting one of the highest averages in Europe for touches in the opposition box.

Moussa is similar - he averages comfortably over six per 90 minutes, notably above what Cody Gakpo puts up.

But the Algerian also looks fantastic when it comes to progressing the ball. His average of 4.5 carries per 90 is more than both Salah and Gakpo.

He's also someone who receives progressive passes at a high level. This is a vitally important one for Liverpool and both Gakpo and Salah score incredibly highly for receiving such passes.

Moussa isn't quite at their level but with nine receptions per 90 minutes, there's a sense that he could get up to their level very quickly. Then there are carries into the penalty area - a statistic where the Feyenoord star just outperforms Salah and comfortably does so with Gakpo.

Football Transfers has Moussa's Estimated Transfer Value at around €19m. That would be an absolute steal but shows his growth - Feyenoord signed him for around €3.5m in 2024.

By the time Liverpool can actually get an offer in, we imagine his value will have shot up even further. But we still think Moussa will represent a bargain as the Reds look to find both backup and a successor to Salah.

Liverpool's next African star, then?
