José Mourinho: Inter Milan vs. Chelsea was 'revenge' plot against Roman Abramovich

José Mourinho has said he was on a personal "revenge" mission against former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich when his Inter Milan side faced the London club in the 2009-10 Champions League.

After arriving from Porto in 2004, Mourinho won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cup trophies in his first stint at Chelsea.

However, he was sacked in 2007 after his relationship with Abramovich, who was the club's owner at the time, broke down significantly.

When Mourinho was drawn to face his old club in the Champions League in 2010 with Inter Milan, the Portuguese manager said it became personal against Abramovich.

Inter won the first leg 2-1 in the Italian capital, before Mourinho's long-awaited return to London.

"Honestly, I was playing against Roman in that game," Mourinho said on a new Netflix documentary about his career.

"I was not playing against Chelsea. I was not playing against the boys. I was playing against him. That game for me was beauty. I was playing against a guy that sacked me. It felt like pleasure."

Inter won the second leg 1-0 before going on to win the competition as Mourinho claimed his second Champions League.

"I go home happy and he goes upset, because I know how much he loves Chelsea, I know how much he loves to win," Mourinho said. "But I needed revenge. Because football belongs to people like me. The other ones are the intruders who don't belong.

"Football belongs to the players, belongs to the coaches, belongs to the fans. Football will always belong to us."

Mourinho returned to Chelsea in 2014 and won a third Premier League title before he left the club a second time the following season after a poor run of form.
