Cruz Hewitt has stormed into the Wimbledon boys singles final, becoming the first Australian to reach the junior final in a decade.

The 17-year-old extended his flawless tournament run with a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set victory over the Netherlands’ Thijs Boogaard.

Hewitt has been on an absolute tear at the All England Club, booking his spot in the championship match without dropping a single set.

His father, Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt was in the stands watching his son.

Hewitt himself won the men’s singles title on the grass at Wimbledon 24 years ago and now watches his son stand on the precipice of history; the last Australian to hoist the junior Wimbledon trophy was Luke Saville back in 2011.

Alex de Minaur was the last Australian in the junior final in 2016.

The youngster will play the championship match on Sunday AEST and his performance drew high praise from British tennis legend John Lloyd.

“Impressive. Impressive. He manages the game so well, he looks like he’s already ready for senior tennis,” said Lloyd on the Stan Sport coverage.

“A little bit more punch here and there, but he reads the game, he’s got great court awareness. You see so many players are great sluggers and they belt the ball, but they don’t know enough about the game, about when to come in, when to hit the right ball.

“(Cruz) looks like that he’s already dialled in, someone who’s ahead of junior tennis. I know he’s played a couple of senior tournaments, but I think he’s very impressive.”

“And he’ll improve on certain things, obviously, but nice variety.”
