Todd McShay torches Woody Johnson with Jets in disarray

Todd McShay tore into Jets owner Woody Johnson on Tuesday after Gang Green axed general manager Joe Douglas.

The host of “The McShay Show” labeled Johnson as being “among the worst owners in the National Football League” and insisted that Douglas would be “fine” while “the Jets won’t.”

“If the Jets can’t win with Joe Douglas as the general manager and with the talent that is on that roster, the Jets can’t win, period. It’s an ownership problem, folks,” McShay said. “There are certain decisions that are just made that it doesn’t matter what the general manager wants. There are certain decisions are just made that you have got to get on board with because one person pays the checks and one person oversees the whole thing.

“If you’re a Jets fan, you know exactly what I’m talking about. This is not news to you. I feel badly for Jets fans because if it wasn’t going to work with this regime, with that talent on the field, I don’t see much of a future in terms of where it’s going to be. Ownership is not going to change for a while is my guess. So how are you going to overcome this? And the answer is you probably don’t.”

McShay, who was a college teammate of Douglas at the University of Richmond, is far from the first person to suggest that Johnson holds a significant amount of responsibility for how the Jets season has played out.

Douglas was the latest shoe to drop after the Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh on Oct. 8

Sources told The Post’s Brian Costello that Johnson made the decision to fire Douglas after the Jets lost to the Colts on Sunday.

The Jets had entered the 2024 season with Super Bowl hopes, but instead are looking at missing the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season.
