Leader of spin attack in CT25, Shafiq names Pakistan's No. 1 pick

Pakistan selector Asad Shafiq has confirmed that mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed will lead the spin attack at the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Abrar has been in fantastic form lately as during the tour of South Africa, he took three wickets in two T20Is at an average of 22.

He followed it up with four wickets in two ODIs at an average of 20.

The 26-year-old from Karachi then featured in Pakistan’s two-Test series against the West Indies in Multan and claimed seven wickets at an average of 14.57.

Shafiq confirmed that Abrar will be supported by batting all-rounders Khushdil Shah and Salman Ali Agha.

“Abrar Ahmed will lead the spin attack, supported by Khushdil Shah and Salman Ali Agha, who offer reliable slow-bowling options, while Faheem Ashraf’s experience and presence gives us a fast-bowling all-rounder’s option,” he was quoted as saying in a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) press release.

Abrar will now play in Pakistan’s ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa before going on to take part in the Champions Trophy, which will be held from February 19 to March 9.
