Brentford vs Arsenal LIVE: Premier League latest score and goal updates as Thiago goes close

Arsenal will look to restore their six-point lead over Manchester City when they visit Brentford in the Premier League this evening.

City put the pressure back on Mikel Arteta’s side with a convincing 3-0 win over Fulham on Wednesday evening.

But the Gunners will head to west London full of confidence after impressive wins against Leeds and Sunderland in recent weeks.

Arteta has welcomed Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka back onto the bench after the injuries but are without Kai Havertz and William Saliba tonight due to injury and illness, respectively.

Metro’s LIVE matchday blog will bring you all the build-up, confirmed team news and starting XIs, goal updates and minute-by-minute coverage

30 mins: A yellow now for Gyokeres for a needless push on Yarmoliuk. The Swede was perhaps frustrated, having misplaced a pass to Madueke as Arsenal looked to break.

The home side look full of confidence right now, and their fans are right behind them.

Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

21 mins: When Brentford do get the opportunity, they’re looking to play forward and into Thiago as quickly as possible. And this time, the Brazilian does well, drawing a foul from Gabriel, who is shown a yellow card for the late challenge.

Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

17 mins: Arsenal just beginning to turn the screw after a fairly chaotic start to this game. Brentford are finding it increasingly difficult to get out of their half, but aren’t giving up any opportunities to the visitors as of yet.

10 mins: The first Arsenal corner and Gabriel is at it again. The Brazilian rises above Kayode to head on goal, but Van den Berg is on hand to head it away.

There is plenty of jostling in the six-yard box, but the eventual delivery is far too easy for Raya to claim.

KICK-OFF! Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

1 min: And were are underway in the first half.

Here we go

Out come the players and we’re almost ready for kick-off here in west London.

What has the next two hours got in store for us?

Closing in on kick-off

Nearly ready for kick off here and the atmosphere is building nicely. Here’s a reminder, if you missed them earlier, of the two starting XIs:

Brentford starting XI: Kelleher, Kayode, Van den Berg, Ajer, Henry, Janelt, Yarmoliuk, Jensen, Ouattara, Lewis-Potter. Thiago

Arsenal starting XI: Raya, Timber, Mosquera, Gabriel, Hincapie, Rice, Zubimendi, Madueke, Eze, Trossard, Gyokeres.

Thiago’s a threat

Brentford’s Igor Thiago has scored nine goals in his last 10 Premier League home games, netting four braces in that run. Only Erling Haaland (5) has scored multiple goals in more different home matches this term.

Will he pop up with another big goal tonight?

Can Arsenal banish midweek blues?

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 12 midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) Premier League games (W9 D3).

However, they’re without a win or a goal (D1 L2) in any of their last three, specifically on Thursdays.

Title permutations

City’s big win yesterday has put the pressure back on Arsenal tonight.

At one point on Sunday, it looked like Pep Guardiola’s side were going to slide to a defeat to Liverpool and give the Gunners a nine-point lead at the top of the table.

Now, if Arsenal were to slip up and lose tonight, that gap would be just three. It’s all very nervy…

Head-to-head record

Brentford have picked up home wins against Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle this season, in addition to draws with Tottenham and Chelsea.

But the Gunners have won on each of their last four visits to the ground.

So, what gives tonight?

The visitors are here

Paul Merson’s predictions

Writing for Sportskeeda, the former Arsenal midfielder said: ‘All of a sudden, the pressure is now on Arsenal

‘Out of nowhere, it’s back on them again! This is a super tricky fixture. Brentford have lost just once at home this season and it was against Nottingham Forest. Arsenal will hope it’s that Brentford who turn up here.

‘Not long ago, Arsenal went to Leeds and destroyed them in what was considered a tricky game.

‘Mikel Arteta has a great squad at his disposal and I don’t doubt them. If they play to their best, they will definitely win.’

William Saliba misses out for Arsenal

Here’s the latest on the Frenchman, who misses out tonight due to illness:
