There was confusion over wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi being substituted during KKR's clash with MI

Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Kolkata Knight Riders’ leading run-scorer in IPL 2026, suffered an injury scare during the team’s must-win clash against Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens on Wednesday night. Raghuvanshi collided with KKR spinner Varun Chakaravarthy while attempting to take the catch of MI batter Tilak Varma during the 11th over.

Although Chakaravarthy managed to get his hands to the ball, he failed to hold on after the collision and was visibly upset. Play resumed with Raghuvanshi continuing behind the stumps.

However, in the 14th over, the young wicketkeeper-batter walked off the field for treatment and was replaced by Tejasvi Singh, who kept wickets for the remainder of MI innings.

Confusion Over Concussion Substitute

Initially, broadcasters and KKR stated that Raghuvanshi had been diagnosed with a concussion and replaced by Ramandeep Singh. The announcement sparked debate, as concussion protocols require teams to name a like-for-like replacement to avoid gaining an unfair advantage.

Ramandeep, an all-rounder, is known for his hard-hitting batting and medium-pace bowling, while Raghuvanshi is a specialist wicketkeeper-batter. KKR later reportedly deleted the update from their social media accounts before clarifying that Tejasvi had replaced Raghuvanshi and made his debut.

Raghuvanshi To Miss KKR’s Next Match?

While IPL playing conditions do not specify a mandatory “stand-down period", the ICC last year announced that any player diagnosed with a concussion during a match “must observe a minimum stand-down period of a minimum of seven days before returning to play." The governing body said the change was introduced in the interest of players’ safety and well-being.

KKR are scheduled to face Delhi Capitals in their final league match on Sunday (May 24), just three days after their win over Mumbai Indians in Kolkata.

However, in the absence of a specific IPL rule regarding a mandatory “stand-down period", Raghuvanshi – who has scored 422 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 146.52 this season – could still feature in the crucial fixture.
