Spurs star commits future to club having been linked with move away during summer

Lucas Bergvall has signed a new contract with Tottenham, committing his future to the club.

The 20-year-old has already made 80 appearances in all competitions for Spurs and has won 14 senior caps for Sweden, including featuring at this summer’s World Cup.

He was heavily linked with a move away this summer with Nottingham Forest and Newcastle both keen, but has now put pen to paper on a new deal.

“I think we’re building something great here,” Bergvall said. “It’s an exciting time for the club and that’s why I’m happy to extend my contract.

“Personally, my goal is to produce more for the team – performances, goals and assists – to help as much as I can. I’m getting better every day in training and I’m looking forward to what will be a really good season ahead.”

Spus boss Roberto De Zerbi also praised Bergvall’s mentality and believes there is still much more to come from the youngster.

“Every day in training you can see Lucas’ desire to learn, improve and push himself to the highest level,” the Spurs boss said.

“Lucas is brave, he wants responsibility and has the personality to play in big moments.

“I believe his best football is still ahead of him and we want to give Lucas the platform to reach his full potential.”
