Alan Shearer convinced one Man Utd star is in 'really difficult situation' after Wolves defeat, 'pressure that's on him'

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has insisted that one Manchester United player is suffering from a “crisis in confidence” after the Red Devils’ loss to Wolves.

The Red Devils returned to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon and Manchester United hosted Wolves at Old Trafford for their encounter.

Ruben Amorim was forced to rotate his options for Sunday’s clash after United’s thrilling 5-4 comeback over Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday.

United were steady against Wolves in their Premier League tie, but the Red Devils struggled to make a real impact against Vitor Pereira’s men in the final third.

Wolves stunned United in the second half after Pablo Sarabia curled a sensational strike past Andre Onana from a superb free-kick at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim’s men were unable to rally back before the full-time whistle and Vitor Pereira’s side walked away with all three Premier League points on the weekend.

United are 14th in the Premier League table after the 1-0 defeat to Wolves, with Pereira’s men now 15th and level on points with the Red Devils.

Alan Shearer reveals what he saw from Man Utd striker Rasmus Hojlund vs Wolves in the Premier League defeat at Old Trafford

Rasmus Hojlund was ineffective in the Manchester United attack against Wolves and the Danish forward offered very little in his performance in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat.

United manager Ruben Amorim withdrew the 22-year-old Denmark international in the 70th minute and replaced him with Red Devils talent Chido Obi-Martin.

Rasmus Hojlund’s struggles have been evident over the course of the campaign and the United striker has scored only eight times in 45 matches across all competitions.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day 2, Alan Shearer does not believe that the Denmark international was “ready” to be United’s leading striking option.

“I’m looking at a damaged player in Hojlund,” he said, as per The Daily Mail.

“I think he wasn’t ready and isn’t ready to lead the line at a club like Manchester United.

“Three Premier League goals, and at the minute, I’m seeing a player that doesn’t really want to get in there.

“He’s perhaps a second too early or a second too late, and his timing is all wrong. I think there’s no doubt he’s [suffering from] a crisis in confidence.”

Shearer added that Rasmus Hojlund has not hit the “stage of his career” where he is capable of absorbing the “pressure” of leading United’s frontline on his own.

“He’s been put into a really difficult situation at a club where, unless you’re exceptional, to lead the club for the football club, you have to be really talented,” he added.

“He’s not at the stage of his career where he should be leading the line. I’m not saying there’s not a good player in there, I think there is a good player in there.

“But the pressure that’s on him in terms of doing what he can’t do and also the price tag, he’s not ready to lead the line as yet.”

Bournemouth will now host United in the Premier League on Sunday at the Vitality Stadium, with kick-off slated for 2pm UK time.
