Mary Earps postpones tribute offer from the Lionesses following her dramatic retirement before Euros triumph - as talks with former goalkeeper over a farewell continue

Former England goalkeeper Mary Earps has turned down the FA's invitation of a send-off at Wembley next month.

Earps was promised a 'full tribute' to recognise her 'international career and her significant contribution to English football' following her retirement before the summer's Euros.

However, more than one international window and two fixtures have passed without any sign of a send-off for the former England goalkeeper.

Daily Mail Sport understands that discussions have taken place between Earps and her representatives, but the 31-year-old declined an invitation to hold the tribute before the Lionesses' friendly against China at Wembley on November 29, citing scheduling conflicts. Talks are expected to resume after next week's World Cup qualification draw.

Earps' shock decision to retire just 36 days before Sarina Wiegman's side began their European title defence sent ripples through the women's game and inevitably raised eyebrows within the England camp.

Hannah Hampton stepped up to claim the No. 1 jersey, starting every match of the Lionesses' European Championship and was recently awarded the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper at the Ballon d'Or ceremony - largely in recognition of her performances at the tournament.

Earps' forthcoming autobiography, 'All In', out next Thursday, is expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding her shock decision to step away. As of yet, it remains unclear whether she will make it onto the pitch to celebrate her 53-cap and Euro-winning career.
