The Indian men’s football team will look to bounce back from a goalless draw against Bangladesh when they take on Hong Kong China in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers third round on Tuesday.

The Blue Tigers are third in the Group C of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers with one point from one game.

India, currently ranked 127th in the FIFA men’s rankings, will face a Hong Kong China side coached by Ashley Westwood, a familiar face in Indian football circles.

The Englishman has previously managed Indian clubs Bengaluru FC, ATK and Roundglass Punjab, giving him key insights into the strengths and weaknesses of several Indian football players.

Westwood used to share a close bond with Chhetri while he coached Bengaluru FC from 2013 to 2016. He also coached Afghanistan when they defeated India in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers last year.

The Englishman is still a common sight in punditry panels for broadcasters during the Indian Super League.

Hong Kong China, ranked 153rd, started their qualification campaign with a 0-0 draw against Singapore and will look to make their home advantage count.

The last time these two sides met was in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers in 2022, where India cruised to a 4-0 win.

Sunil Chhetri, Anwar Ali, Ishan Pandita and Manvir Singh were on the scoresheet for the Blue Tigers. However, prior to that, Hong Kong China won back-to-back fixtures against India in 2009 and 2010.

The Blue Tigers have won only once away against Hong Kong China when they emerged as 2-1 winners in a friendly in 1957.
