2026 WTA fall Asian swing kicks off with Singapore Open & Korea Open

Tennis fans know the US Open does not mark the end of the 2026 season. The WTA begins its fall Asian swing with the Singapore Open and Korea Open on Monday, Sept. 21.

This year, the Singapore Open is upgraded from a WTA 250 event to a WTA 500 event. As a result, it has an exciting players draw looking to play well and earn more rankings points.

The Korea Open is a WTA 250 event. Grand Slam champion and Latvian star Jelena Ostapenko is the top seed.

Singapore Open

The Singapore Open, also known as the Singapore Tennis Open, has an interesting history. It was started 40 years ago in 1986 but does not have 40 former champions.

It was not held from 1991-1993 or from 1995-2024. The tournament returned to the WTA calendar in 2025, and this year's fourth seed, Elise Mertens, was the champion.

Big names in Singapore draw

Jessica Pegula, the top seed and a 2026 US Open semifinalist, withdrew, but there are many top players competing in Singapore, including the tournament's new top seed Mirra Andreeva, the 2026 French Open champion. Amanda Anisimova and Filipina Alexandra Eala are the second and third seeds, respectively.

Eala mania is in full force as Nike had custom Eala merchandise featuring the flower of the Philippines, the sampaguita. Fans waited in line for hours to get into the store.
