Video: Ukrainian powerlifter with cerebral palsy sets a world record in the deadlift

Dmytro Polovych, a 26-year-old Ukrainian powerlifter, set a world record in the deadlift among athletes with cerebral palsy. The athlete managed to lift 107.5 kg while weighing 55 kg himself.

The Ukrainian athlete’s impressive achievement was captured on video.

Dmytro Polovych lifted 107.5 kg, and his body weight is 55 kg.

A video of the record-breaking attempt was posted by Ukrainian athlete and coach Anna Kurkurina.

“The only one in the world. Severe cerebral palsy. Doctors said there was a 1% chance he’d be able to lift his head. Not only did he lift his head, but he took his first steps at age 9. The only time he straightens up is when he’s doing a deadlift. A new world record—107.5 kg with a body weight of 55 kg. You’re the best and the one and only! I’m so proud,” Kurkurina wrote.

This is already the second world record for the 26-year-old Ukrainian.

Yulia Starodubtseva staged a comeback at the US Open and advanced to the third round.

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Belarus’s Aryna Sabalenka, the reigning US Open champions, advanced to the third round of the tournament in New York. Alcaraz defeated Portugal’s Jaime Faria in the second round with a score of 4–6, 6–0, 6–3, 6–2, while Sabalenka crushed Russian qualifier Polina Yatsenko 6-1, 6-1.

Alex de Minaur ended his run at the US Open in the second round. The Australian tennis player lost to Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands in three sets.
