Mohammad Rizwan Likely to Be Dropped for Australia ODI Series

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is unlikely to be included in the national squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia.

The selection committee is finalizing the squad after consultations with head coach Mike Hesson and captain Shaheen Shah Afridi. Reports suggest that Rizwan, the experienced wicketkeeper and former captain, may not be part of the team for the series.

Sources indicate that Hesson is not in favor of Rizwan’s inclusion in ODI cricket, after taking a similar position regarding his role in the T20 format.

Rizwan, 33, has played 103 ODIs for Pakistan, scoring 2,979 runs at an average of 40.08. His record includes four centuries and 19 half-centuries. As a wicketkeeper, he has taken 113 catches and completed seven stumpings.

In March 2026, Rizwan scored 58 runs in the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.

According to reports, Ghazi Ghouri, who made his debut as a batter in the third ODI against Bangladesh on March 15, 2026, and was also part of the squad during the Test series, is expected to be included for the Australia ODIs.

For the second wicketkeeper’s slot, Pakistan may choose either Usman Khan or Mirza Saad Baig.

The Australian team is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on May 23. Pakistan will begin training in Rawalpindi from May 22 and will also play a practice match before the series.

The three ODIs between Pakistan and Australia are scheduled to be played on May 30, June 2, and June 4.
