Liverpool transfer news as Virgil van Dijk 'rejects offer' and Matheus Cunha wants move

Liverpool may still be on course for the Premier League title, but it's becoming clearer that Arne Slot will have plenty of work to do on his team in the summer transfer window.

Sunday's defeat to Fulham saw the charge to be crowned champions stall, although the Reds remain a maximum of just 11 points way from securing the title. Nevertheless, it was obvious at Craven Cottage that upgrades are still needed in some areas.

And that's before the potential departures of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold have even been taken into account. There is at least an update on the Liverpool captain's contract talks, although if reports in Spain are to be believed, it won't be good news.

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Virgil van Dijk has rejected an offer to renew his contract at Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain is now looking to pounce, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Despite the defender telling reporters on Sunday that there has been "progress" on talks with the Reds, this latest report claims alarm bells are ringing at Anfield now after he turned down their latest offer. What's more, PSG is said to have made an "attractive" offer, and sees Van Dijk as a perfect fit for its long-term project.

Liverpool.com says: We're not so sure how "long-term" that project really is if they're planning on signing a soon-to-be 34-year-old. In any case, this is the only report suggesting that Van Dijk has rejected another offer, and all the noises he has been making recently have seemed positive, so hopefully he's preparing to put pen to paper on a new deal at Anfield. Matheus Cunha (Wolves)

Matheus Cunha is favoring a move to Liverpool over Manchester United, according to Football Insider.

The report cites former United chief scout Mick Brown, who suggests that Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Chelsea have also shown an interest in the Wolves star, who is likely to be on the move in the summer. And it's claimed that United would find it difficult to wrap up a deal for Cunha, with the suggestion being that Cunha would prefer to go to Anfield instead.

Liverpool.com says: Well, of course you'd prefer to go to Liverpool over United at the moment - that just has to be a complete no-brainer given the positions of the two clubs.

Would Cunha be a good fit at Liverpool? There's no doubt about his talent, and he might well be an upgrade on some of the current forwards at Anfield, although there are some question marks over his temperament, which might not make him the best fit.
