The tragic passing of Diogo Jota in recent days has been met with an outpouring of grief in the world of football, with a huge amount of tributes paid to the Liverpool forward and his brother Andre Silva after their sudden deaths in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The funeral for the pair would take place in Portugal yesterday, with a large Liverpool contingent present to pay their respects. Quite a few of Jota's Portugal teammates would also make their way to the town of Gondomar, near Porto, for the service.

Even far away from the footballer's hometown, tributes continued to pour in.

The likes of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele would dedicate goals at the FIFA Club World Cup to Diogo Jota, with masses of people paying their respects at the grounds of Liverpool, Wolves, Atletico Madrid, and Porto.

Everton have been among the clubs that have paid tribute to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva over the weekend, with manager David Moyes, assistant manager Alan Irvine, and Portuguese-born players Youssef Chermiti and Beto visiting Anfield.

It appears as though Everton and Ireland captain Seamus Coleman also made his way to the ground, doing so in a typically understated manner.

A Liverpool supporter would share his story of meeting Coleman outside Anfield late on Friday night, with the Donegal visiting at such an hour in order to avoid the cameras.

Wat a lad he’s proper 🍀❤️💙 pic.twitter.com/EmU4WXhAUW — Francis ventre (@FrancisVentre) July 5, 2025

Quarter past 11 on a Friday night and Seamus Coleman turned up to pay his respects. I said to him 'am a red me Seamus it means a lot that you turning up at this hour'. He says to me 'sorry for your loss lad, I just wanted to pay my respects on my own without any cameras and fuss'. Touched me that has, one of the most genuine fellas I've met.

Top class as always.

Liverpool and Everton may be fierce rivals on the pitch, but the pair have a long history of solidarity when it comes to their actions away from the field of play.

The conduct of the blue half of Merseyside in recent days has only hammered home that fact.
