He also made a huge reveal about PCB

Hafeez is former director of Pakistan cricket

The Pakistan cricket fraternity has launched an all-out attack on the Men in Green after their below-par performance against India in the league stage match of the 2024 T20 World Cup . The Babar Azam-led side failed to chase a low target of 120 against Rohit Sharma's India in New York. Pakistan had the advantage and they opted to bowl first after winning the toss.

Their batsmen failed to do the job and Pakistan suffered a six-run defeat in the all-important game. Mohammad Hafeez , the former director of cricket of Pakistan, made a big claim after the defeat and said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a deal with Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim .

Hafeez claimed that they are playing the T20 World Cup because there is no league cricket right now. Amir and Imad came out of retirement before the ICC event and were included in the squad ahead of the regulars.

"They brought them here out of greed, made deals with such players who have ruined Pakistan's cricket. I was in the domestic circuit, but no one wants to play domestic cricket. It's because they were telling me, 'Hafeez bhai, if any of us gets selected, we will take it. How can it be that players who don't even play Pakistan's domestic cricket got selected?" Hafeez said.

"When asked six months ago to play for Pakistan, they said they wanted to play in leagues. Now that there are no leagues happening these days, they are playing in the World Cup. They are playing in the World Cup as if it is just another league."

It is to be noted that Hafeez had contacted Amir to come out of retirement (in 2023) and asked him to play domestic cricket to play for Pakistan. "I called Amir, I told that if he wanted to play for Pakistan, he has to first take his retirement back. ‘Go back to domestic cricket and perform. Then, the selection committee will assess your performances and select you. Once you return to Pakistan, I will assure that you will get equal opportunities’, I told him. He said he had already moved on. He believes his priorities has changed, his life has changed. And we have to respect his decision," Hafeez said last year.

His stint as the director only lasted for a couple of months. The former Pakistan opener claimed that he was offered a four-year contract by the PCB.

With 2 defeats from as many matches, Pakistan are at the fourth spot in the points table. They are on the cusp of elimination from the tournament. The Men in Green can miss out on making it to the Super 8 even if they win their next two matches.
