Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has taken a new role with the German Football League (DFL), and he will do the job alongside his existing role at the Red Bull Group.

Klopp officially left Liverpool 16 months ago, handing the managerial reins over to Arne Slot in the summer of 2024. The German spent nine years at Anfield, leading the club to the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League title a year later.

During his time at Anfield, he also lifted the FA Cup once and the League Cup twice. He hasn’t taken another coaching role since. Instead, Klopp has been working as global head of soccer at Red Bull since January. His role involves clubs including RB Leipzig, Salzburg and New York Red Bulls.

Alongside that post, Klopp will now work a second job with the DFL, announcing him as part of an expert group aimed at improving the nation’s game.

They said in a statement: "The expert group will address, among other things, the training and integration of talented players as well as the further development of club standards and structures. Initial results are to be discussed in the league committees in spring 2026 and subsequently with all 36 clubs.”

DFL managing director Marc Lenz added: “We are convinced that the financial, legal, and sporting frameworks must be right to keep the Bundesliga and German football consistently competitive. We need to draw the right conclusions together. The expert group will provide valuable input in this regard."

Klopp will be joined on the panel by the likes of former Real Madrid star Sami Khedira, Bayern Munich’s Jochen Sauer and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Markus Krosche.

It comes not long after the former Liverpool boss hinted that he doesn’t plan to return to coaching anytime in in the future.

Klopp recently told The Athletic: “I was super happy with the way Liverpool performed. I watched some games. But it is not like, ‘Oh, it’s Saturday!'

“I didn’t know when games started. I was just out. I played sports. We enjoyed life, spent time with the grandkids, completely normal stuff, knowing I will work again. But knowing as well, that I don’t want to work as a coach anymore.”

When asked if he never want to coach again, he responded: “That’s what I think.

"But you don’t know. I’m 58. If I started again at 65, everybody will say, ‘You said you’ll never do it again!’ Er, sorry, I thought 100 per cent (when I said it)! That is what I think now. I don’t miss anything.”
