Saudi Arabia starts 100-day countdown to 2027 Asian Cup

Saudi Arabia has begun a 100-day countdown to the start of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, which will open on January 7. This will be the first edition of the tournament held in the kingdom’s history. The local organizing committee stated that the country is ready for the competition, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.

Preparations for the tournament

According to the committee, preparations have entered the operational phase. Organizational work is continuing in the host cities and at stadiums ahead of the arrival of 24 national teams that will compete for the title.

Asian Football Confederation President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa thanked Saudi Arabia’s leadership, the country’s government, the organizing committee, and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation for the preparations. He said the upcoming edition would be the largest in the history of the Asian Cup and that preparations were proceeding according to plan.

Eight stadiums and presentations

Mai Al-Helabi, CEO of the local organizing committee, said preparations at eight stadiums are on schedule. According to her, more than 50 organizations are working jointly on the tournament’s organization to ensure fans have an appropriate experience from their arrival to their departure from the country.

As part of the preparations, the organizers plan to present a film about the key stages of preparations for the tournament, the official mascot, and the competition’s sonic identity. They also announced other related initiatives and events.
