Brentford thrashed relegation favourites Southampton at St Mary's to chalk up a long-overdue first away win of the Premier League season, helped by a Bryan Mbeumo double.

Kevin Schade put the mid-table visitors ahead in the sixth minute at St Mary's, the German forward flicking the ball past goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after being fed through by Mikkel Damsgaard.

Cameroon international Mbeumo doubled the tally in the 62nd and added the third goal from the penalty spot in the 69th before then providing the assist for Keane Lewis-Potter in the second minute of stoppage time.

Yoane Wissa made it 5-0 in the fourth of five additional minutes with his 10th league goal of the campaign ensuring the women in question had successfully predicted the result.

The woman's son, who had brought her along for her first visit to the stadium in years, shared a video captioned: 'Went to the St Mary's for first time in a while. My mum, who knows nothing about football, predicted the 0-5 loss then got booed when collecting her prize from Adam Armstrong in the Saints hospitality.'

Armstrong, who has been with Southampton since 2021, managed to share a smile with the winner, acknowledging the uncanny accuracy of her guess, before handing over a Saints shirt

As she approached the Southampton forward to collect her prize, the room filled with lighthearted boos from fellow hospitality guests, playfully expressing their dismay at her spot-on prediction.

Armstrong, who has been with Southampton since 2021, managed to share a wry smile with the winner, acknowledging the uncanny accuracy of her guess, before handing over a Saints shirt.

The video has since gone viral, with fans and pundits alike amused by the beginner's luck that led to such a precise forecast. One online commenter quipped, 'Maybe she should consider a career in sports punditry!'

Last in the league with six points from 20 matches, Southampton have only one win to their names - 1-0 at home to Everton more than two months ago - and are 10 points from safety with the fewest goals in the top flight.

Southampton manager Ivan Juric, who has lost all three games in charge following his appointment last month, spoke of his disappointment with Sky Sports.

'I am very disappointed with the performance; disappointed in the team, in myself. We didn't do anything well today. Very bad performance and it was too big a difference between the two teams.

'I was very hopeful after the West Ham game. I thought we could compete. After this game it's normal that you have questions about your work. It will be big a motivation to change the situation but in this moment I can say I didn't change the situation and I am very sorry for that.

'Maybe in my life I never played a game that I feel like there's this big a difference between two teams. Today, everything (was) wrong, everything (was) bad.'

Southampton have changed their manager but it's the same old story after another defeat

Meanwhile, Brentford head coach Thomas Frank told Sky Sports it was his side's best Premier League win to date.

He said: 'It's nice not to be asked the question [about Brentford's away form]! We can't just win one game away from home this season, so hopefully more will come.

'The performance today, fantastic. I'm extremely proud of the players, of the team. It's not an easy game to play. It [Southampton] is a team that is suffering a bit and they probably saw a good chance against us today, with a new manager, new energy, new ideas.

'We were completely on top in this game from more or less minute one to minute 90 - and we were this dominant in terms of how much we created and could easily have scored more goals. We are basically giving nothing away. That speaks a lot about the culture we have.

'I said to the players before it's about attitude, attitude and attitude and I speak about being confident but humble; confident that they knew they are good players and a good team, but if they are not humble enough to put in the intensity, to work hard, to respect them, defend well, then it will be very difficult.

'It is, for me, one of the best wins and performances in the four years in the Premier League.'
