Pakistan and New Zealand set to miss out on cricket at LA 2028 Olympics

Leading Test nations such as Pakistan and New Zealand are set to miss out on playing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics because the ICC is expected to set a continental qualification system.

Six men’s and six women’s teams will compete at LA28, when cricket will return to the Olympics for the first time in more than a century, but qualification will mirror other sports with the highest-ranked team in each continent taking part, rather than the six highest-ranked nations in the world.

It means that the Games is likely to miss out on an India v Pakistan clash because only India would qualify, with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh also missing out. Australia would be most likely to qualify from Oceania, meaning no place for New Zealand.
