Lisandro Martinez's reason for ignoring Man Utd and Ruben Amorim's advice speaks volumes

Manchester United defender Lisando Martinez has flown back to England early as he looks to make himself available for Ruben Amorim following his recent injury.

The 26-year old was injured in United's 3-0 win over Leicester City prior to the international break. He then travelled to Argentina, where he was expected to face Peru and Paraguay in his nation's World Cup qualifiers, but was ruled out after further evaluation.

Martinez had his club's permission to remain in South America for the duration of the break. However, he has elected to defy that advice and head back to United's Carrington training complex as he aims to shake off his injury.

He has started 10 of United's 11 Premier League games so far this season and he is now hungry to begin life under his new boss and make a good first impression. His commendable decision to depart his home country early also means he will now undergo tests to assess the extent of the damage.

The initial niggle originates from a knock to his lower back that was sustained during the win over Leicester. The issue was possibly even exacerbated by Martinez's delayed flights on route to international, with a firm decision taken upon his arrival in Argentina not to take anymore risks.

Amorim began life in Manchester last week and is now preparing to get to grips with his squad on the training pitch. The make up of his defence, already much discussed due to his penchant for playing three at the back, will now be of greater concern following Martinez's injury.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are still not ready to return despite making progress on long-term injuries. Harry Maguire and summer signing Leny Yoro are also currently unavailable.

Despite creases to iron out with his back line, Amorim has left United officials impressed just days after his arrival at the club. The 39-year-old reportedly charmed the United hierarchy with his "charisma" and "air of self assurance" - which he has confidently displayed to the media since taking charge.

The Portuguese coach faces the biggest challenge of his promising career to date as he looks to steer United in the direction of success following a string of unsuccessful managerial appointments. However upon his arrival in England, he claimed he is not feeling the pressure.

"I'm really, really proud to be a Manchester United coach, so it's amazing," he said. "It's a real honour to be here. I feel very relaxed. Maybe because it’s not gameday. When we have a game I'm a different guy, but I really don't feel the weight.

"You watch on TV and you know that it's big and it's impressive - but when you are here, you can feel it and I think you feel the history. I'm really excited and I'm quite relaxed. I think I am where I am supposed to be. That's the feeling."

Amorim's first game in charge will be a trip to Ipswich Town on November 24 before home games against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League and Everton in the Premier League. He then faces his first major test away at Arsenal on December 4.
