Manchester United want to sign the next Geovany Quenda, Ruben Amorim can't miss out again

Having missed out on Geovany Quenda, Manchester United are now looking at a move for the next one up from Sporting CP.

When Ruben Amorim was appointed as Manchester United head coach in 2024, it looked like a near certainty that he would be joined by some of the talents he had helped bring through at Sporting CP.

Geovany Quenda was the player United wanted, with the Portuguese wonderkid considered a top prospect in the world of football. But despite interest, Quenda is joining Chelsea in 2026, much to the dismay of Amorim, as he’d have been perfect for that right wing-back role.

However, there is another talent emerging at the Jose Alvalade Stadium who could potentially be the solution to this problem in the form of Salvador Blopa.

United have a list of positions which will require reinforcement or overhaul in 2026, among them is the right wing-back position.

Amad has been controversial as a right wing-back, and as a result an addition with high potential could be likely, and Salvador Blopa ticks that box.

It is according to the Daily Mail that Blopa is a player United are currently exploring a move to sign, with the 6ft 2in right sided talent having qualities perfectly suiting him to wing-back.

Likened to Nuno Mendes, United will face competition from Real Madrid for his signature, but have already taken initial soundings and held conversations over his availability.

Unlike Quenda, Blopa is much more defensively sound option, while also being solid going forward.

Salvador Blopa would be the perfect wing-back signing for Manchester United

Amorim hasn’t signed a single player from Sporting CP since leaving the club 12 months ago, but Blopa would be a smart talent to break this mould for.

Blopa has the talent going forward to be a wing-back in Amorim’s system, as his goal on his debut for Sporting showcased as he cut inside excellently and coolly finished.

Amorim will have been aware of Blopa in the Sporting academy, however only now is he catching the attention of Europe’s elite and the United head coach should be pulling all of the strings he possibly can.

Blopa would be available for a reasonable fee if United were to move in January, in an effort to restore the relationship which was surely damaged after taking Amorim.

If Blopa signs for United, he has plenty of success stories to look to for inspiration.
