‘No class’: Keane savages Forest owner, players over Ange axing as ‘obvious’ next move revealed

The legendary Roy Keane has ripped Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis for the way he went about sacking Ange Postecoglou.

It comes as Postecoglou’s next move is shaping as “obvious” after a manager vacancy surprisingly opened up at one of his previous clubs, where he won two premierships.

But Keane, speaking on the controversial dismissal of Postecoglou — who went winless in eight games in charge at the club — just 18 minutes after Forest’s 3-0 loss to Chelsea 10 days ago, didn’t pass up the opportunity to deliver a scathing assessment of Marinakis.

“Why do you think this Forest owner is going to do it differently to what he’s always done?” started the legendary former Manchester United captain on Stick to Football.

“He’s done it to Martin O’Neill, he’s done it with other managers. Leopards and spots.

“Why did you think he was going to do it properly? Power, control — that’s how they work. Yes, you have to sack managers, but do it with a little bit of class — they can’t do it.

“And then the players are coming in afterwards (saying) ‘oh well, that’s football’, all that carry on when lads are missing the target from 10, 15 yards out.”

Former Arsenal and Crystal Palace goalscorer Ian Wright added: “We can’t be surprised. Ange getting that job with the way that Nuno (Espirito) went out of that job — surely Ange must have been on his toes there.

“If I’m Ange, (I’m thinking, after Spurs) ‘you know what, I’m going to have a little bit of a break, it’s too quick’ — especially going into such a chaotic owner’s club.”

Keane, who also quipped that Marinakis has “got no class”, went again in criticising the way the Greek businessman operates.

“I don’t get why we’re even ... this is the owner — when Forest are having a brilliant season last year — (who) is walking on the pitch complaining about stuff and making statements about referees,” Keane said.

“So, what’s expected of this owner to do to this manager (Postecoglou) when it’s not panned out?”

It comes as Celtic legend Chris Sutton has dubbed Postecoglou the “obvious choice” to replace the departed Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers resigned from the Scottish powerhouse in a shock move — with Celtic sitting second through nine league matches — and ‘big Ange’, who led the club from 2021-23, is being tipped for a timely return after his Premier League exit.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sutton said: “I think Ange would be a smart appointment. He was loved the first time around. His brand of football went down well in Glasgow.

“He is out of work. I think it would be a pretty obvious choice, a good choice, and would bring positivity back to Celtic, which they need right now.”

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and Ferencvaros’ Robbie Keane are also thought to be among the candidates to succeed Rodgers.
