The Bangladesh Cricket Board has extended the contract of head coach Phil Simmons till 2027.The former West Indies cricketer was first appointed by the BCB in October 2024 as an interim coach, with his tenure initially set to run until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025."I am delighted to be given the opportunity to work with Bangladesh cricket on a long-term basis," Simmons, 61, said. "The talent within this team is undeniable, and I believe we have the potential to achieve great things together. I am looking forward to the journey ahead. Having worked with some exceptional players already, I can see the immense promise in this squad. Their skill and passion for the game inspire me daily. Together, we can take Bangladesh cricket to new heights and create something truly special."However, during his interim stint, Simmons did not enjoy much success. Bangladesh could win one Test and a T20I in the West Indies but crashed out of the Champions Trophy in the group stage after losing their matches against India and New Zealand.Simmons’ contract extension by the BCB also ended speculation regarding his future as Bangladesh’s coach. He will no longer coach the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League. The BCB appointed him in October last year as a replacement for Chandika Hathurusingha.Simmons is an experienced coach, having previously managed teams like Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Afghanistan. He also coached the West Indies in two separate stints, with their 2016 T20 World Cup triumph in India being his most significant achievement as a coach.
