One of Perth’s most iconic and beloved indoor sports centres has announced it’s closing its doors for the last time, shocking the local sporting community in the northern suburbs.

Bouncer Sports Centre in Joondalup announced last night via social media that next Tuesday would be its final day of operation, marking the end of more than 30 years of service to the local community.

In the statement, which was also sent to loyal patrons via email, owners Deane and Panda Hudson expressed their heartfelt gratitude to their customers and team for their unwavering support, while explaining that the closure was a result of circumstances beyond their control.

“Dear valued bouncer community, it is with deep sadness that we announce the closure of Bouncer Sports due to unsustainable rent increases,” the statement read.

“Despite our best efforts to sustain the business, we must now move on, cherishing the remarkable experiences and relationships we’ve built along the way.

“We kindly ask for your understanding and privacy during this transition and invite everyone to join us on Tuesday, April 29th, for our final day of operation as we celebrate the memories we’ve created together.”

The sports centre is located in the heart of the Joondalup business district, just off Winton Road.

Owners Deane and Panda Hudson said the community’s support was a massive drive behind everything they had done.

“We hope you all know how truly valued each and every one of you were to the brand,” they said.

“We’ve tried to explore all avenues to try and make this business model work and succeed. Unfortunately, to our devastation, this could not be agreed upon.”

News of the closure of the hugely popular centre, which opened in 1989, has stunned the local community, as it marks the end of an era for generations of families who have created cherished sporting memories there.

“Very sad news. Thanks for all you have done. Both my kids and myself have played so many different sports there over the years,” one comment on the post said.

“Thank you for your commitment to providing a space for all our kids to develop their passion and skills in netball.” another said.

“I played my first game of indoor Netball at Bouncers about 35 years ago and ended up working in the Cafe for 10 years. So many happy memories and friends made,” a third comment read.

The centre offered a variety of sports, including netball, indoor soccer, and indoor cricket, as well as an inflatable indoor playground and a licensed bar, making it one of the go-to indoor sports complexes in Perth’s northern suburbs.

Bouncer was even scheduled to host the 2025 Australian Indoor Cricket National Championships in July.

The tournament is still expected to go ahead at another venue in Perth.

Refunds for any advance payments made, particularly for the upcoming Inflatable World season, are now being processed, according to the centre, which is contacting affected families individually.
