What some Chelsea players have now told their agents after Xabi Alonso appointment

Xabi Alonso’s appointment as Chelsea manager is already having a positive impact on the Blues’ squad.

Chelsea announced on Sunday that Alonso has been hired to replace Liam Rosenior, who was sacked last month.

Alonso is a fan of Chelsea’s squad, believing that it has the makings of a title-winning side.

And it looks like several players at Stamford Bridge are also admirers of the Spaniard.

It’s going to be a big summer for Xabi Alonso and Chelsea!

Journalist Simon Phillips has revealed on his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that after telling their agents they wanted out this summer, some Chelsea players have now told their representatives they want to stay at the club because of Alonso’s arrival.

It is not too surprising, as Alonso has already proven himself as a manager and has a huge reputation in the game after a successful playing career.

At Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso won the Bundesliga title, going the entire 2023/24 season unbeaten with the German club. As a player, he also won the Bundesliga as well as the Champions League, European Championship and World Cup.

There is no doubt that Alonso is going to command respect inside that Chelsea dressing room.

Chelsea stars who could still leave Stamford Bridge this summer

Alonso’s arrival may not be enough to keep Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez at the club. While it is thought that Alonso does want to retain Cucurella and Fernandez, there is no guarantee that either stays amid interest from Spain.

In fact, one football agent has claimed that Cucurella is “1000%” joining Barcelona or Atletico Madrid this summer.

Hopefully, the club keep hold of him. When the Spain international is in form, he is easily one of the best left-backs in the world.

If not, Jorrel Hato could perhaps replace him. Hato has played at left-back and centre-back this season and has impressed in both positions. The former Ajax man looks ready to play either role for the first team in the 2026/27 campaign.
