Man Utd Star ‘Set for £100,000 Per-Week Pay Rise’ if He Wins Europa League

Cash-strapped Manchester United could be forced to pay one of their players the same wage they once did for Cristiano Ronaldo should Ruben Amorim’s side win the Europa League on May 21. The Red Devils currently boast a 3-0 lead over Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final, and look set to face Premier League rivals Tottenham after they themselves beat Bodo/Glimt 3-1 in their game.

United have thrown all their weight behind Europe’s second-tier competition, clinging to it as their last lifeline to Champions League football next term amid a season that’s spiralled into chaos. Languishing in 15th place, the Red Devils are enduring their worst domestic campaign since being relegated back in 1973.

But the rot hasn’t stopped at the touchline. Behind the scenes, the atmosphere has grown increasingly grim. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team have been forced to wield the axe with ruthless efficiency, rolling out dystopian-style cost-cutting measures in a desperate plea to claw back control from the financial wreckage left behind by the Glazers. And victory in the Europa League could leave Amorim with a tough decision to make over the future of Casemiro.

Casemiro Set For Staggering Pay Rise If He Wins Europa League

A clause in his contract could see him get a 25% increase

In the last couple of months, the Brazilian international has undergone an incredible body transformation to play a role in United's first European voyage under Amorim. He’s started all five of United’s Europa League knockout matches, and was the inspiration behind their quarter-final win over Lyon, as well as being hailed for coaching the team through their 3-0 semi-final first-leg win over Athletic Bilbao.

But it doesn't matter how well he has performed, or how well he will finish the season, the club can ill-afford to pay more than they already are for a 33-year-old. According to The Star, Casemiro is set for a 25% pay increase if the Red Devils return to the Champions League.

With the former Real Madrid ace currently on a mind-boggling £350,000-per-week, he will expect to be on £500,000 a week soon enough, which is exactly the same amount Ronaldo pocketed from 2021 until 2022. See where this would rank him among the highest-paid players in Europe's top five leagues:

Highest-paid players in Europe'stop five leagues Player Club Weekly Salary Robert Lewandowski Barcelona £536,006 Erling Haaland Manchester City £525,000 Kylian Mbappe Real Madrid £502,556 Casemiro* Manchester United £500,000 Harry Kane Bayern Munich £402,044 *Subject to Manchester United winning the Europa League

Triumph in Bilbao, which would see the Red Devils salvaging their dreadful season, will see Casemiro become their highest-paid player. And he doesn't seem keen on leaving before his contract runs out in 2026, as he and his family are happy in Manchester, which makes Ratcliffe and co.'s hopes of slashing the wage bill now seem a very tall order.
