Huge Aussie boost as terrifying South Africa superstar tipped to miss Test series

Australia’s hopes of success in the upcoming tour of South Africa have dramatically improved with reports superstar quick Kagiso Rabada is set to miss the Test series.

The 31-year-old had previously been reported as suffering a hamstring injury at training but on Sunday, it was revealed the issue was worse than feared.

Rabada’s domestic bowling coach Allan Donald said the bowler had suffered a grade three tear of his right hamstring which looks set to cost him up to 10 weeks.

“He’s going to be out for all the Aussie Tests as well,” Donald said, which begin on October 9 (Durban) before matches on October 18 (Gqeberha) and October 27 (Cape Town).

However Cricinfo reports Donald has not spoken with Cricket South Africa about Rabada’s injury and a full medical report is not expected until early this week.

At best he will be racing the clock to contribute to the series, and South Africa must also consider his health for home Tests against Bangladesh (two in November) and England (three over the Christmas period).

While South Africa has a strong bowling attack it would a major blow to the hosts to not have Rabada given tremendous history against Australia, against whom he has taken 58 wickets at an average of 21.39 in 11 Tests.

Rabada took nine wickets in the World Test Championship final won by South Africa last year and for his career, sits at 340 wickets at 22.03.
