Alexis Ohanian on Leaving Reddit and the Rise of Women’s Sports

To this day, Alexis Ohanian is best known for two things: being the co-founder of Reddit and the husband of tennis icon Serena Williams (and not necessarily in that order). He has leveraged both roles in building an array of business ventures, from tech-driven startups to owning women’s sports teams to building a superstar-filled women’s track-and-field endeavor called Athlos.

In 2005 he and Reddit co-founder Steve Huffman were part of the inaugural Y Combinator class, a program developed to accelerate startup companies. “It was not normal to want to do a startup in 2005, and that was the genius of YC,” Ohanian said on the latest episode of The Circuit with Emily Chang. “They realized this opportunity before everyone else did.”
