Bartina Koeman, Wife of Former Netherlands Manager, Dies at 65

Bartina Koeman, wife of former Netherlands national football team manager Ronald Koeman, died on Tuesday at the age of 65. The news of her passing was publicly announced by her husband on social media platform Instagram.

Doctors first diagnosed Bartina with breast cancer in 2010. After recovering, the illness returned in 2018, followed by a diagnosis of chronic breast cancer in 2023 during Ronald Koeman's second tenure managing the Dutch national team.

Ronald Koeman explained in a talk show appearance in December 2025 that medical treatments had been effective after doctors discovered metastases the previous year. The couple shared three children, including Ronald Koeman junior, a goalkeeper for Eredivisie club Telstar, who recently welcomed their fourth grandchild.

The family expressed their grief and tributes online regarding the loss of their matriarch.

"With intense sadness, but also with great pride and love, we say goodbye to my beautiful wife, our dearest mother and grandmother," wrote the Koeman family in an Instagram post announcing her passing.

Ronald Koeman, 63, previously stepped down as national team manager following the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, highlighting the constant encouragement he received throughout his coaching career.

"My wife Bartina has, despite her own illness process, supported and encouraged me every day to finish my work as national coach. That testifies to an incredible strength. I am more grateful to her for that than I will ever be able to put into words," said former national team manager Ronald Koeman.

Bartina Koeman was a prominent figure in Dutch sports culture for decades after marrying Koeman in 1985 while he played for Ajax. She worked as an entrepreneur and launched her own cosmetic and skincare product line.

Throughout their marriage, she supported his extensive managerial and playing career across major clubs including PSV, FC Barcelona, and Feyenoord. Her passing marks the end of a high-profile public partnership across the international football community.
