Wimbledon will see a first-time women’s singles champion today as Amanda Anisimova faces Iga Swiatek in an intriguing final.

Anisimova is looking to secure her first Grand Slam title of any kind in this afternoon’s showpiece fixture after a remarkable fortnight at the All England Club, reaching a maiden final after stunning favourite and reigning world No1 Aryna Sabalenka on Thursday.

The American 13th seed held her nerve in a feisty third-set decider on Centre Court, eventually prevailing 6-4 4-6 6-4 in one of the finest wins of her career to date having already beaten all of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Linda Noskova, Dalma Galfi, Renata Zarazua and Yulia Putintseva.

Now she faces another significant challenge against Swiatek, the world No4 and ‘Queen of Clay’ who already has four French Open titles and one US Open championship to her name, but is playing in her first-ever Wimbledon final on Saturday.

Swiatek has struggled on grass in the past but shown huge improvement at SW19 in this two weeks, breezing past surprise package Belinda Bencic in the semi-finals while losing just two games having only dropped a solitary set in earlier triumphs against Liudmila Samsonova, Clara Tauson, Danielle Collins, Caty McNally and Polina Kudermetova.
