PH turns to Villegas, Delos Santos as flagbearers at Asian Games

AIRA Villegas and Albert Ian Delos Santos will carry the Philippine flag during the opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino announced the flagbearers during the Asian Games and Asian Para Games athletes send-off on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Villegas, bronze medalist in the 2024 Paris Olympics in boxing, and Delos Santos, the world juniors record holder in weightlifting, were awarded with the distinction of being the flagbearer usually given to the coutnry's top athletes.

Tolentino bared that Filipina tennis superstar Alex Eala was also considered to become the flagbearer, but her father Mike respectfully declined, as she is scheduled to compete in the Singapore Open a few days after the opening ceremony.
