WASHINGTON — As the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics come to a close, many fans may already be looking ahead to the next Olympic spotlight. The Summer Games are returning to the United States for the first time in more than three decades.Where are the next Olympics?The next Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, with the 2028 Summer Olympics scheduled to run from Friday, July 14, 2028, to Sunday, July 30, 2028.Officially known as the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad, the Los Angeles Olympics will mark the city’s third time hosting the Games, following previous editions in 1932 and 1984.With more than 40 sports, roughly 800 events, and an expected 15,000 athletes, the 2028 Olympic Games will use a mix of iconic venues across Southern California, including SoFi Stadium, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Rose Bowl. Select events will be hosted outside the state.The Opening Ceremony is set for July 14, 2028, at SoFi Stadium and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.Swimming will be held in a temporary pool at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, with its 38,000 seats creating the largest swimming venue in Olympic history.As a result, the traditional schedule for track and field and swimming will be adjusted. Track and field will move to the first week of the games, while swimming will be held during the second week.The temporary competition and warmup pools at the NFL stadium will be already built and covered during the Opening Ceremony. Afterward, a temporary stand will be constructed while athletes train in the leadup to the start of swimming.The Summer Games will also introduce five new sports: baseball/softball, lacrosse, cricket, flag football and squash.
