5-star ATH A'mir Sears commits to Miami over LSU, Michigan, and Texas A&M

Miami is keeping one of the best players in South Florida home.

On Friday evening, Miami (Fla.) Columbus five-star athlete A'mir Sears announced his commitment to the Hurricanes live on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel.

Sears, who earlier this week was considered the No. 1 overall prospect in the Class of 2028, elected to reclassify to join Miami a year sooner. He is now slotted as the No. 20 overall prospect and the No. 1-ranked athlete in the Class of 2027.

Considered one of the premium two-way stars in the country, Sears caught 42 passes for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns while totaling 63 tackles, three interceptions, and 11 pass breakups at Pembroke Pines (Fla.) West Broward last fall.

Now set to play his senior campaign at a storied program, which has recently produced prospects like Heisman trophy winner and No. 1 overall draft pick Fernando Mendoza and Miami's breakout freshman defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald, Sears will enter the fall pledged to his hometown program.

The expectation is that Sears will play both offense and defense in Coral Gables.

"I feel like everybody can bomb somebody, but can you turn around right back again and lock their guy up," Sears told InsideTheU earlier this month. "I really just want to emphasize on playing both ways–going against your No. 1 cornerback and No. 1 receiver and just showing you it doesn't matter who's in front of you. I'm going to get the job done."

Sears joins Miami (Fla.) Carol City five-star wide receiver Nick Lennear as elite Dade County natives set to play for the Canes in 2027. They're considered the No. 2 and No. 3 players in the Sunshine State.

His addition also pushes Miami's elite recruiting class to No. 2 nationally, leaping Oregon and Notre Dame. Sears becomes the fifth five-star prospect to pledge to the Hurricanes this cycle, which is the most in modern recruiting history for the program.

It's also the most of any program in the country this cycle.

In total, Miami's class holds 21 prospects, 14 of whom are considered Top247 talents and 17 total blue-chip prospects.

-Rare football IQ also shows up in his route-running as he sets up defenders with subtle movements and slips coverage.

-On the slender side with his wiry frame, but not afraid to make a hit and will compete as a perimeter blocker.

-Will head to college a year early after electing to skip his senior season, but should still be viewed as one of the top overall playmakers to come out of South Florida in recent recruiting cycles and a potential superstar if it all comes together.
