It comes with the game, which originated in Mexico, growing in popularity.

The playing area for padel tennis is slightly smaller than a doubles tennis court.

The club, located at Ennis Road on the city's northside have contacted An Bord Pleanala.

They want the national planning body to rule on whether they would need to apply for planning permission with Limerick City and County Council to subdivide their courts or not.

They plan to erect new padel lighting posts measuring six metres in height, with the posts consisting of a galvanised metal frame, glazed wall panels and transparent wire mesh panels.

The club has made two applications to An Bord Pleanala - both of which have been declared invalid.

It remains to be seen if a third referral is made to the national planning authority.
