Emma Raducanu’s net worth gets healthy boost even after US Open defeat

The US Open didn't go to plan for 2021 champion Emma Raducanu, whose first-round defeat to Sofia Kenin was slightly softened by the minimum payday all singles stars receive

Emma Raducanu has pocketed a six-figure sum to add to her impressive net worth despite exiting the US Open.

The 21-year-old tennis star was beaten by Sofia Kenin in the first round of final major of the year. Kenin, a former Australian Open champion, emerged victorious 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 on Wednesday, extending Raducanu's winless streak to three years.

Since her surprise victory at Flushing Meadows in 2021, she has struggled to maintain form. However, off the court, Raducanu's rapidly rising stardom has seen her amass a fortune estimated to be around £10million, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.

This week, she added $100,000 (£76k) to that total, the minimum a singles player earns for qualifying for the US Open finals. Her career winnings total just over £3m, so the bulk of her wealth comes from sponsorship deals.

She currently holds nine major contracts with British Airways, Vodafone, Tiffany, Dior, Porsche, Evian, Wilson, Nike and HSBC. But, as reported by The Telegraph, there is now uncertainty surrounding these deals.

Several are due for renewal soon, as is her management-agency contract with IMG, and her world ranking of No. 72 could affect the potential and value of any extensions.

Raducanu appeared desolate after her loss to Kenin. Questions have been raised about the decision for her to forego hard-court preparation in America and instead spend a month training at the National Tennis Centre in London.

"I would have preferred to probably play a little bit more before coming into the US Open," she confessed. "I know when I have a lot of matches, just like every player, you feel really good, you feel like everything's automatic. So yeah, I think I can learn from it and manage my schedule slightly differently."

When probed about who decided her preparation plans, Raducanu claimed: "I would say it wasn't me. It was more of like a collective call and, yeah, that's what happened. You can't really change it."

In an emotional moment during the press conference, a teary-eyed Raducanu shared her heartache as she said: "I feel down... I feel, I feel sad. Obviously, this is a tournament I really want to do well in."
