Mumbai Indians (MI) made a remarkable comeback after a slow start to the IPL 2025 and won six matches on the trot before losing a thriller to Gujarat Titans (GT). One of the key reasons for MI's staggering comeback was the form of Suryakumar Yadav , who dominated the opposition with consistent performances. Surya is currently the leading run scorer of the tournament with 510 runs in 12 games, including three fifties.

Suryakumar Yadav Achieves Historic Feat

Suryakumar Yadav played a knock of 35 against the Gujarat Titans, which helped him create a unique feat. Surya became the first player in the world to score 12 consecutive 25+ knocks in T20 cricket in a year. Overall, Temba Bavuma holds the record of most consecutive 25+ scores in T20 cricket - 13, but his innings were spread across the 2019-20 season. Surya, on the other hand, achieved the feat in the same year, during IPL 2025.

Records Galore For Suryakumar Yadav

Surya became the fifth player after Virat Kohli, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler to score 500+ runs in IPL 2025. This was the third instance when Surya went past the 500 run mark for Mumbai Indians in an IPL season. Surya is the only MI batter to achieve the feat thrice. Sachin Tendulkar and Quinton de Kock scored 500+ runs for MI twice.

Suryakumar Yadav's 500 runs in IPL 2025 have come at a strike rate of 170, which is the eighth instance of batters scoring 500 runs in an IPL season at a strike rate of 170 or more. Surya is the only player to claim the feat twice, having previously scored 604 runs in the 2023 season with a strike-rate of 181.13.
