Alejandro Garnacho takes thinly-veiled swipe at Chelsea with Instagram post

Alejandro Garnacho appeared to take aim at Chelsea following his move to Aston Villa.

The winger joined Villa from the Blues on a season-long loan deal last month.

And after his new side's 3-1 pre-season win over Indonesia All Stars in Jakarta on Saturday, Garnacho took to Instagram to seemingly have a dig at Chelsea.

Posting a picture of himself on his story, he wrote: "First start after 3 months. Happy to be enjoying football again. 1% every day. Thanks Indonesia!"

Garnacho's loan exit from Stamford Bridge comes after he was transfer listed by the Blues.

That's despite the fact he only joined from Manchester United last summer.

Morgan Rogers' move from Villa to West London will only have sent the 22-year-old Argentina international even further down the pecking order, though.

Garnacho will be hoping to get plenty of minutes for Unai Emery's Villa, who are back in the Champions League for 2026/27 having won last season's Europa League.

He played the first half of Villa's first game of their Asian tour, which continues in Thailand against BG Pathum United on Tuesday.

Villa then face Bayern Munich in Hong Kong and travel to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Those friendlies fall either side of the UEFA Super Cup against European champions PSG in Salzburg on August 12.

Garnacho is one of three new arrivals at Villa Park this summer.

His loan deal is thought to include a conditional obligation to buy, with a four-year contract provisionally agreed.

Switzerland starlet Johan Manzambi and Brazil international Joao Gomes have joined from Freiburg and Wolves respectively as Villa look to rebuild the midfield.

They have suffered the double blow of losing Rogers to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans to Manchester United.

Villa begin the new Premier League campaign away to Brighton on August 23.

Their first home match comes eight days later against reigning champions Arsenal.

Emery's men will find out their Champions League opponents when the draw for the league phase of the competition is made on August 27.
