Curtis Jones suggests Liverpool have a 'fearless' youngster in the same bracket as Rio Ngumoha

Rio Ngumoha has quickly cemented himself as one of the brightest young stars in world football this season.

Ngumoha shone against Fulham, scoring in the win over the weekend. Arne Slot has now been urged to start the young winger against PSG in their second-leg Champions League meeting on Tuesday night.

But aside from the talented forward, fellow Liverpool Academy gem Trey Nyoni has also received high praise from Curtis Jones.

Trey Nyoni put in the same bracket as Rio Ngumoha and Arsenal’s Max Dowman

Speaking to Pro Direct Soccer, Jones was asked to select three rising stars in football right now.

He went for Rio, the aforementioned Nyoni and 16-year-old Arsenal gem Max Dowman.

Jones said: “Three young players I’d say to keep an eye out for would be Rio [Ngumoha], Trey [Nyoni] and Max Dowman from Arsenal.

“Rio and Trey, I see them every day in training and then playing as well. They’re fearless young kids. They’ve got an eye for a goal or an assist and can really help our team.”

Nyoni was called ‘outstanding’ by Andy Robertson this season, with the Scottish left-back saying: “I thought Trey, when he came on, was outstanding as well. These two are really, really important to the squad. They’re only young, but they’ve been growing and growing so much as the season’s been going on.

“We’ve been trying to help them as much as we can. And they’re going to be two important players for the club for many, many years to come.”

Elsewhere, Cody Gakpo was quick to comment on Nyoni and Ngumoha during an interview back in February.

Gakpo said: “I think all the other players at the moment who are young and training with us are very good characters. I think they all help each other as well to stay calm, and he’s doing that.

“I think Trey [Nyoni] is doing that as well, and they [Trey and Rio] are often together. I think that’s very good for them. They don’t get carried away by either good or bad things that happen, and I think that will only benefit them in the future when they’re a little bit older.”

But despite the praise from multiple Liverpool stars, Slot has only afforded Nyoni 14 minutes of football in the Premier League this term.
